Lake Shore Animal
Shelter Selected as Program Partner
Vacation time is rolling around –
thought we’d let you know that if you need a pet-friendly hotel in
Chicago, you might want to check out the Swissotel at 323 E Wacker –
they have a wonderful “pampered pets” program, are known for
their great food and accommodations, and are in walking distance to
popular city sights.
Lake Shore Animal Shelter is honored to
be chosen as Swissotel’s partners in their Pampered Pets Program!
APRIL 16, 2010 An urgent call came in from a resident of Schiller Park.
For four years this person had been trying to get local authorities to
remove an abused, neglected dog from a private residence, with no
success. Lake Shore Animal Shelter took the information, and immediately
sent a Humane Investigator to the residence. The situation was assessed
and a discussion with the owner resulting in the relinquishment of the
dog.
Nadine M. Rosin, Author “The Healing Art of Pet Parenthood”
When I came across Nadine M. Rosin’s blog, I
found a great story about senior canine care, holistic choices in
canine cancer, impressively researched information on toxics in our
homes (dryer sheets—never use for dog clothes, towels or bed
covers!), grieving consultation, and of course, the story of her own
experience with her dog Buttons, and the strength of the human-animal
bond. Here’s her message to you:
"Do you love your pet as much as
some people love their children? Do you feel misunderstood by others
when it comes to how deeply you cherish your pet? Are you embarrassed
to reveal how much you miss an animal that has passed away? You are
not alone. Help is here…
When my adopted
daughter, an eleven-year cancer survivor on all natural remedies,
died in my arms the week before her nineteenth birthday, some people
treated me as if I had just lost an easily replaceable houseplant.
Why? Because her stalwart, humorous, and loving spirit, which
inspired and impelled my own emotional healing, happened to reside in
a canine body.
From Lake Shore foster parents Mike Lesch and Lisa Mills
To anyone wishing to get involved with animal rescue that isn’t sure how to help, consider opening you home and your heart to a foster dog.
Our decision to foster for Lake Shore Animal Shelter (LSAS) was tempered by two concerns; our fears that taking in a strange animal would be a difficult transition for both us and our pets (when we started we had two dogs and two cats of our own – an important fact to which we’ll reference later), and that we would become attached to our charges and would have difficulty when the time came to send them off to their new home.
