To all the furry (and not so furry) members of your household. Lake Shore Animal Shelter would like to extend our affection and Best wishes to you and yours as "fellow friends" of animals.Lake Shore is Chicago's oldest no-kill animal shelter, and one of the oldest in the nation. Founded in 1966 hy Dr. Lloyd Prashun, a noted Veterinarian, and a pioneer in the modern animal welfare movement, Lake Shore was the first animaI charity designed and operated as an "orphanage" for homeless and abandoned pets. Lake Shore is staffed by volunteers and receives no government funding. In a world where millions of pets are abused, neglected and unwanted, our mission is to accept animals of all ages, breeds ancl circumstances, and we frequently accept transfers from ocher shelters who must otherwise euthanize them for lack of space. Lake Shore Animal Shelter provides shelter, safety and care until a loving home is found. We provide all necessary medical treatment and training to ensure the long term happiness and well being of the animal. ONCE ADMMITTED TO OUR CARE* LAKE SHORE ANIMALS WILL HAVE A HOME FOR LIFE. It's rewarding work. At the same time, it often seems as though nothing can stop the almost mind-numhing pace of so-called "mercy killings" that continues year after year. The reality is that despite the almost mychic proportions of this slaughter, the pet over-poptilation problem persists. Literally tens of thousands of animals are brought into the world each and every day; brought into a dangerous, uncertain world, where many are condemned to death almost before they begin life.![]() PAGE 2 |
