Summer Fun With Your Dog PDF Print E-mail
Summer is a great time to be out and about with your dogs.  Long walks, time spent socializing in the parks, going to the beach, to art fairs, sidewalk sales, and outdoor cafes, and taking you four-legged best friend out with you just makes you, and your dog, feel good!

Here's an easy list of some things to consider to ensure that you and your dog spend a
happy, healthy, and hopefully accident free season!

·    Whenever you take your dog(s) in the car, remember that when you leave dogs in a
car while you get your dry cleaning or a few grocery items, they are being subjected to extreme heat, even with the windows rolled down.  Dehydration and heat stroke doesn't
take long to induce.  Please forego these chores while you are with your furry friends.
It's just not worth the price the dogs may have to pay, and the guilt you will bear.

·    When you enjoy outdoor events, remember that any concerts or fireworks are just not
appropriate venues for pets.  They are often terrorized by fireworks, and loud noises create stress, confusion, and can damage their hearing.

·    The dog parks and beaches are great places for play and fun. The sand and concrete,
however, can get so hot that the pads on your dog's paws can burn. There is a product that
coats your pets paws that should help, but it's all about length of time spent on hot surfaces, so keep that in mind.

·    Wherever there is grass and/or groups of dogs, you should think about fleas and ticks.
Your vet has products available suited to your dogs size and weight.

·    Please do not allow your dog to hang their head out the car windows…yes, they love the
breeze, but we've actually seen dogs jump out the window in stopped traffic.  The other problem is particulate matter that can lodge in the dogs eyes, whether it's dust, cut grasses, ashes from someone's carelessly discarded cigarette, or something else.

·    Be aware that many people still have not got the memo on spay/neuter or leash laws, so
please read our Help Prevent Dog Bites article by scrolling down on the site or checking the titles in the "News" section.

Have a great summer, and Save the Date, September 25, for "Dog's Night Out!", the social event of the season for you and your dog!
